Terms of Service

Important Financial Notice: Denk is an accounting calculation and ledger tracking utility. Denk is NOT a bank, payment service provider, money transmitter, or licensed financial institution. Denk does not process, transmit, custody, or transfer actual money or cryptocurrency.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Denk mobile application or related web services ("Denk", "the Service"), provided by independent developer Ömer Faruk Ay ("Developer"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use Denk.

2. Description of the Service

Denk is an expense-sharing utility that enables individuals, friends, roommates, and travel groups to log shared expenses, split costs equally or customly, and calculate simplified net balance settlements. The Service is provided solely for personal, non-commercial expense record-keeping.

3. Non-Financial Institution Disclaimer

Please carefully review the following limitations regarding Denk's functionality:

  • No Money Movement: Denk does not hold bank accounts, process credit cards, or facilitate financial transactions between users.
  • Informational Balances: All balances, amounts owed, and net calculations displayed in Denk represent informational accounting records based entirely on numbers entered by group members.
  • Off-Platform Settlements: When a user marks an expense or balance as "settled" in the app, this constitutes a mutual ledger entry. Any actual transfer of cash, bank wire, or digital funds must occur independently through external payment channels chosen by the respective parties.

4. User Accounts and Invite Codes

Denk is designed to minimize personal identification:

  • Anonymous Accounts: You may use the app anonymously without registering an email or password. You are responsible for maintaining your device access.
  • Account Linking: You may optionally link an Apple or Google account to enable cross-device recovery. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your linked credentials.
  • Group Invite Codes: Anyone possessing a group's unique invite code (e.g., DNK-XXXXXX) may request to view group details or join the group. You are responsible for distributing invite codes solely to trusted peers.

5. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to use Denk to:

  • Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
  • Input unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or fraudulent text into group names, display names, or expense descriptions.
  • Attempt to circumvent security controls, reverse engineer app code, or perform automated scraping against backend Firebase databases.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.

6. Intellectual Property Rights

The Denk name, logo, software code, user interface designs, icons, documentation, and all associated intellectual property rights are the exclusive property of Ömer Faruk Ay and are protected by applicable intellectual property and copyright laws. You are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on your mobile device.

7. Account Deletion and Termination

You may stop using Denk at any time. You can delete your account, associated profile data, and personal memberships immediately from the app under Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete Account, or via our public Web Account Deletion Portal.

Upon account deletion, your personal profile documents are destroyed and your name in shared groups is anonymized. Shared ledger amounts are retained in group archives to preserve balance calculations for remaining members.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR ACCURATE IN ALL MATHEMATICAL SCENARIOS CAUSED BY ERRONEOUS USER INPUTS.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY DISPUTES OVER EXPENSES OR DEBTS BETWEEN GROUP PARTICIPANTS.
